Help! I Can’t Stop Watching Cat Videos!

Dogs may be the most popular pet in the U.S. (37% of households), but cats (2nd most popular pet at 30% of households) rule the internet. Over 2 million cat videos were posted on the internet in 2014 and those 2 million videos received about 26 billion views! Cat videos received more views per video than any other category on YouTube in 2014. Here’s a taste of “Grumpy Cat” for you:

So, what’s behind all this cat video watching? A researcher at Indiana University published a study in 2015 entitled: “Emotion regulation, procrastination, and watching cat videos online: Who watches Internet cats, why, and to what effect?”  It concluded that cat videos are a very low cost yet effective form of pet therapy.  Here is a summary of the findings:

So, go ahead and watch those cat videos – it may just boost your mood and save you some therapy bills!
